The Rocks Café was conceived as more than a place to grab a coffee, it’s a community hub, a space that adapts to its visitors. Designed to shift effortlessly between hosting large gatherings and offering quiet corners for reflection, the café celebrates the role of food in bringing people together. Responding to the area’s diverse, multi-generational community, the design integrates inclusive principles to ensure everyone feels welcome. Dementia-friendly interior interventions are embedded subtly within the space; invisible to most, but invaluable to those who need them, because dementia design is simply good design! The result is a welcoming, flexible design where connection, inclusion, and thoughtful detail come together seamlessly. Custom joinery and integrated artwork bring a strong sense of identity and place. What began as a subtle design intervention has grown into a vibrant, independently run hub, fostering new relationships, encouraging local collaboration, and reflecting the spirit of its neighbourhood.
